Ntioteh is an online vaccination portal geared towards combating vaccine preventable diseases, using digital health technology and health promotion strategies to screen and raise awareness on vaccine preventable diseases, increasing access to routine vaccines and linkage to follow-up care/ treatment as a tertiary form of prevention.
The Problem
While Africa and Cameroon in particular has made tremendous gains toward increasing access to immunization in the last 15 years, progress has stagnated, leaving one in five African children without access to life-saving vaccines. As a result, vaccine-preventable diseases continue to claim too many lives (WHO). In February 2016, ministers or heads of delegation from across Africa, signed the Addis Declaration on Immunization (ADI) at the landmark Ministerial Conference on Immunization in Africa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. To date, representatives from 49 African countries have signed the declaration including Cameroon. In addition, three statements of support were signed by civil society organizations, religious leaders and parliamentarians to support implementation of the ADI and reach every child in Africa with essential vaccines, not leaving out life-saving vaccines for adults not given routinely at birth. However, lapses have prevailed and the overall vaccine coverage has remain sub-standard.
